What is an SVG file?

SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics. Instead of storing an image as fixed pixels, an SVG stores shapes, paths, text, colors, and layout instructions. That makes SVG useful for logos and icons because the artwork can scale up or down without the same kind of pixelation you get from a small JPG or PNG.

Simple version: SVG is good for scalable artwork. PNG or JPG is better when you need a normal image file that works almost everywhere.

How to preview an SVG in Grafiq

  1. Open SVG Tools.
    In Grafiq, open More → SVG Tools.
  2. Open an SVG file.
    Choose the SVG file you want to inspect.
  3. Check the preview.
    Review the rendered artwork to make sure it looks like the expected logo, icon, drawing, or graphic.
  4. Zoom or resize the preview if needed.
    Use available preview controls to inspect the artwork more closely.
  5. Export if needed.
    If you need a normal image file, export the SVG to a supported image format.

How to convert an SVG to PNG

  1. Open SVG Tools.
    Open More → SVG Tools.
  2. Choose the SVG file.
    Select the SVG artwork you want to convert.
  3. Check the preview.
    Confirm that the SVG renders correctly before exporting.
  4. How to export and edit SVG text

    1. Open SVG Tools.
      Open More → SVG Tools.
    2. Choose the SVG file.
      Select the SVG artwork you want to inspect.
    3. Preview the SVG.
      Confirm that the SVG renders correctly before making changes.
    4. Export text from the SVG.
      Use Export Text to review text found inside the SVG file.
    5. Edit extracted SVG text.
      Use Edit Text to select SVG text, change it, and apply the change.
    6. Save the updated SVG.
      Save the edited SVG as a new copy so your original file remains available.
    7. View the edited result.
      Open the updated SVG and confirm the text change looks right.

    When to use PNG, JPG, or SVG

    • Use SVG when you want scalable vector artwork, logos, icons, or web graphics.
    • Use PNG when you want a normal image file with clean edges or transparency support.
    • Use JPG when you want a normal photo-style image and do not need transparency.
    Good default: For logos and icons, export to PNG first. PNG keeps sharp edges and can support transparency.

    • JPG does not preserve transparency.
    • Exporting SVG to PNG or JPG turns vector artwork into pixels.
